Blog for the meeting on 2nd May
226th regular meeting of Fuchu toast masters club was held on 2nd May. Today, a new member has joined our club! Before the meeting, we held an induction ceremony and we greeted a new member T-san. We celebrate his success in toast masters club.
■ Today’s word：”novel”
At the beginning of the meeting, one of participants announces “today’s word”. Speakers can build up practical vocabulary by trying to use today’s word in their speeches.
■ Prepared Speech
A prepared speech is made based on the speech manual written by toast masters international. Speakers have to make a speech along purposes in the manual such as “logical speech” and “effective way of speech”. The manual gives us specific advices. Achieving the purposes step by step allows you to improve your speaking skill.
[1st Speaker: TM S] Speech Title: “Online Personal Exhibition”
TM S-san shared his paints that he drew in his young, and told us his memories about those paints. He drew the view of ocean many times. We could enjoy the atmosphere of his young time memory through his paints and his speech.
[2nd Speaker: TM T] Speech Title: “Five Things I Learned From Speech Contests”
TM T-san told about last Area Contest. He has attended this contest for contestant, and he shared what he learned from this experience. He told us some his reflections, and he told us that feedbacks from others can encouraged speaker strongly. His speech has motivated us to try the contest.
[3rd Speaker: TM S] Speech Title: “Can we revive Miyakotanago in Tokyo?”
TM S-san gave a speech about “Miyakotanago”, it is the fish of natural monument. She is working for environmental protection, and working on the project for cleaning water to save the creature. Her speech taught us what her project is, and why it is important. I hope someday Miyakotanago would come back to the wild.
■ Table Topics Session
Table Topics is impromptu speech. A facilitator for Table Topics gives a title of speeches and assigns a speaker. The speaker have to organize his/her idea and make a two-minute-speech on the spot. Quick response ability can be improved through the Table Topics speech.
TM M-san, today’s Table topics master, has gave us speech topics as titles given below.

■ Evaluation session
In the evaluation session, evaluators previously assigned describe good points and area for an improvement and encourage speakers to make more effective speeches. Evaluators have to listen to the speech carefully and are qualified the ability to analyze good points and area for an improvement quickly. Even if you are not evaluator, evaluator-like- listening is a good training to be a good speaker.
■ Award session
The best speaker of each session, prepared speech, table topics and evaluation, is chosen by all participants voting and is awarded for his/her best speak. Congratulations!
