Fuchu Toastmasters Club – 346th Regular Meeting Report (May 10, 2026)
On May 10, Toastmasters International Fuchu Toastmasters Club held its 346th regular meeting in a hybrid format, both at the conference room in Platz and online via Zoom/Slack.
Although there were no guests this time, seven members gathered and enjoyed another energetic and inspiring session.
One of the great strengths of Toastmasters is that every meeting offers opportunities to practice speaking, listening, and leadership in a friendly environment. Whether you are an experienced speaker or just starting out, each meeting provides a place to grow at your own pace.
Today’s Theme Word: “Hectic”
The Word of the Day was “hectic.”
It means very busy and full of activity — the kind of situation where many things happen quickly and there is little time to relax.
Members were encouraged to use this word during the meeting, which is one of the fun ways Toastmasters helps participants expand their vocabulary while speaking naturally.
Prepared Speeches
The prepared speech session showcased how diverse Toastmasters speeches can be.
Speech 1: Thing that I did the work — TM K
TM K introduced the famous Kurayami Festival, held every year in early May at Okunitama Shrine.Through vivid explanations and examples, the speech gave the audience a strong sense of the festival’s atmosphere. It was the kind of speech that makes listeners think, “I want to visit that event next year.”
Speech 2: Reading Between the Gestures — TM M
TM M explored the fascinating topic of body language across cultures.
Using examples from international meetings, the speaker explained how gestures can have very different meanings depending on the country. One memorable example was that in some cultures, a movement that looks like shaking one’s head may actually mean “yes.”
This speech reminded us how communication is much more than words — an important lesson for anyone working in international environments.
Table Topics Session
The Table Topics session is a popular part of every Toastmasters meeting. Participants are given an unexpected question and must speak for 1–2 minutes on the spot. This is excellent practice for improving impromptu speaking skills.
This time, the topics centered on Golden Week memories and seasonal reflections:
- Did you go anywhere during the May holidays?
- What did you do during the May holidays?
- Is there anything you want to try in May?
- What flowers remind you of special memories?
- What are you interested in right now?
- Which do you prefer, coffee or tea?
The speakers shared personal stories, plans, and preferences, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Even simple topics often lead to surprising and engaging speeches.
Evaluation Session
A unique feature of Toastmasters International is its peer-learning system.
There are no teachers or formal instructors. Instead, members learn by practicing and by receiving constructive feedback from fellow members. This creates a supportive environment where everyone can improve together.
The General Evaluator led the evaluation session, and each prepared speech received thoughtful feedback. Evaluators highlighted strengths while also offering practical suggestions for improvement. This process helps speakers refine not only their speaking skills but also their confidence.

府中トーストマスターズクラブ 第346回例会レポート（2026年5月10日）
5月10日、Toastmasters International 府中トーストマスターズクラブは、Platz 会議室とオンライン（Zoom/Slack）を併用したハイブリッド形式で第346回例会を開催しました。
今回はゲスト参加はありませんでしたが、7名の会員が集まり、活気ある学びの時間となりました。
トーストマスターズの魅力は、毎回の例会で「話す力」「聞く力」「リーダーシップ」を実践的に磨けることです。経験者はもちろん、初心者でも自分のペースで成長できる場です。
今日のWord of the Day：「Hectic」
本日の単語は “hectic”。
「とても忙しく、慌ただしい様子」を表す言葉です。
例会中にこの単語を積極的に使うことで、参加者は自然に語彙力を伸ばすことができます。こうした工夫もトーストマスターズならではです。
準備スピーチ
第1スピーカー：TM K
Speech Title: Thing that I did the work
TM K は、Kurayami Festival を紹介しました。これは毎年5月初旬に Okunitama Shrine で開催される府中の伝統的なお祭りです。
具体例を交えた説明により、聞いている人が「来年は行ってみたい」と感じるような魅力的なスピーチでした。
第2スピーカー：TM M
Speech Title: Reading Between the Gestures
TM M は、文化によって異なるジェスチャーの意味について語りました。
国際会議での実例を交えながら、身振り手振りが国や文化によって異なることを紹介しました。
特に印象的だったのは、私たちには「首を横に振る＝No」に見える動きが、別の文化では「Yes」を意味する場合があるという話です。言葉以外のコミュニケーションの大切さを改めて感じさせる内容でした。
テーブルトピックスセッション
テーブルトピックスは、その場で出された質問に即興で答えるセッションです。
1〜2分で考えをまとめて話す練習となり、日常生活や仕事でも役立つ即興スピーチ力を養えます。
今回のテーマはゴールデンウィークや季節に関する内容でした。
- ゴールデンウィークにどこかへ行きましたか？
- ゴールデンウィークに何をしましたか？
- 5月にやってみたいことはありますか？
- 思い出の花はありますか？
- 今興味を持っていることは何ですか？
- コーヒーと紅茶、どちらが好きですか？
参加者それぞれが個人的な思い出や考えを語り、和やかな雰囲気となりました。
評価セッション
Toastmasters International の大きな特徴は、仲間同士で学び合う仕組みにあります。
先生はいません。
代わりに、メンバー同士がスピーチを評価し合い、良かった点と改善点を伝えます。
今回もGeneral Evaluatorが全体進行を担当し、各スピーチに対して具体的で建設的なフィードバックが行われました。こうした評価を通じて、話し方だけでなく自信も育まれます。
