Fuchu Toastmasters Club – The 348th English Meeting Report

On June 7, 2026, Fuchu Toastmasters Club held its 348th English meeting in a hybrid format at Fuchu Community Center “Platz” and online.

The meeting was filled with learning, laughter, and opportunities to practice communication skills in a supportive environment.

A Place Where Mistakes Are Welcome

The motto of our club is:

“Let’s practice! It’s OK to make many mistakes!”

Many people feel nervous about speaking English or giving presentations. At Fuchu Toastmasters Club, members encourage one another and learn through practice. Mistakes are not something to fear—they are part of the learning process.

This welcoming atmosphere helps members gain confidence step by step.

Sharing Experiences Through Prepared Speeches

One of the highlights of the meeting was a prepared speech about a concert experience in Yokohama.

Prepared speeches give members a chance to organize their thoughts, share personal experiences, and communicate clearly with an audience.

After the speech, members asked questions and shared comments, creating a valuable learning experience for everyone.

Building Confidence with Table Topics

The Table Topics session challenged members to speak without preparation.

Some of the questions included:

• What do you do on a rainy day?
• Which would you choose as a pet, a frog or a snail?
• Which disaster would you prepare for, a typhoon or an earthquake?
• Do you care about food expiration dates?
• Which is more useful on a rainy day, an umbrella or a raincoat?

These fun and simple topics encouraged members to think quickly and express their ideas clearly.

Impromptu speaking is an important skill that can help in meetings, presentations, interviews, and everyday conversations.

Learning Through Positive Feedback

One of the unique features of Toastmasters is the evaluation session.

Evaluators do not focus on criticism. Instead, they recognize what the speaker did well and provide practical suggestions for improvement.

This positive and supportive feedback helps speakers grow while making the learning process enjoyable.

Word of the Day: “Flying / Soaring”

Each meeting includes a “Word of the Day” activity to help members expand their vocabulary.

This meeting’s word was:

“Flying / Soaring”

Members were encouraged to use these words during the meeting. It was a great reminder that learning communication skills is a journey of continuous growth.

Just like a bird learning to fly, every member takes small steps toward becoming a more confident communicator.
