Inside a Fuchu Toastmasters Meeting
Many people assume Toastmasters speeches must be formal or technical.
At Fuchu Toastmasters Club, that’s not the case.
Our motto says it clearly:
“Let’s practice! It’s OK to make many mistakes!”
🎤 Prepared Speeches: Exploring Your Own Theme
At a recent meeting, the prepared speech session featured an English speech on a very personal topic:
something the speaker truly likes and values.
K.M. shared why this favorite mattered, how it shaped personal perspectives, and how those feelings could connect with the audience.
This was not casual storytelling — it was part of an official Toastmasters project focused on structure, clarity, and audience awareness.
Members learn how to turn personal interests into meaningful, well-organized speeches.
🫘 Setsubun as a Table Topics Theme
The topic of Setsubun, the Japanese bean-throwing tradition, was used in the Table Topics session, not the prepared speeches.
Speakers responded to spontaneous questions such as:

Why do we throw beans on Setsubun?

What is your most memorable Setsubun experience?

How is the lucky direction decided?
With almost no preparation time, members practiced thinking quickly and speaking clearly — a skill essential for meetings and daily conversations.
🔎 Supportive Evaluations
After each speech, evaluations followed.
H.M. provided balanced feedback, highlighting strengths and offering practical suggestions for improvement.
Evaluations at Fuchu TMC are not about judgment.
They are about growth and encouragement.

「何を話してもいい」から、話せるようになる
―― 府中トーストマスターズクラブの例会から
「スピーチクラブって、堅いテーマしか話せないのでは？」
そう思われがちですが、府中トーストマスターズクラブ（Fuchu TMC）ではまったく違います。
私たちのモットーは
“Let’s practice! It’s OK to make many mistakes!”
テーマも、表現も、成長の段階に合わせて自由です。
🎤 準備スピーチでは「自分の世界」を深掘りする
2月初旬の例会では、**準備スピーチ（Prepared Speech）**として
**「自分の好きなこと・関心のあるもの」**をテーマにした英語スピーチが行われました。
K.M. さんは
「お気に入りのもの」を切り口に、
なぜそれに惹かれるのか
それが自分の価値観とどう結びついているのか
を、5〜7分の構成で丁寧に伝えました。
これは単なる雑談ではありません。
相手に伝わる構成力・説得力を鍛える公式プロジェクトの一環です。
🫘 節分の話題は“即興スピーチ”で
一方で、「節分」や「豆まき」「恵方巻」といった話題は
**テーブルトピックス（即興スピーチ）**のテーマとして扱われました。

印象に残っている節分の思い出

恵方はどうやって決まるのか
準備時間ほぼゼロ。
それでも、参加者はそれぞれの視点で1〜2分のスピーチに挑戦します。
ここでは
**“とっさに考え、言葉にする力”**が自然に鍛えられます。

スピーチ後には評価セッションがあります。
