Improve Your Public Speaking in English – Fuchu Toastmasters Club Meeting Report (Meeting #344)

Small Group, Big Growth — A Spring Meeting Full of Learning

On April 5th, we held the 344th regular meeting of the Fuchu Toastmasters Club in English.

Although we had a relatively small group of 7 members and no guests this time, the meeting demonstrated once again that even a small gathering can provide rich learning opportunities. Among the participants, one joined online while six attended in person, creating a hybrid environment that reflects our flexible meeting style.

After a brief business session to share administrative updates, we moved on to the main program.

🌱 Today’s Word: “On Hand”

Today’s Word was “On Hand,” introduced by Toastmaster Y.
Throughout the meeting, members actively tried to incorporate the phrase into their speeches, and it was interesting to see how creatively it was used in different contexts. Tracking word usage is always a fun and effective way to expand vocabulary in a practical setting.

🎤 Prepared Speeches

We enjoyed two engaging prepared speeches:

  • Toastmaster K — “Venezuelan Some Social Situations”
This speech offered a broad and insightful perspective on Venezuela, covering topics from the World Baseball Classic to political issues. It gave the audience a chance to connect global events with real-world social challenges.
  • Toastmaster M — “The Behind of Mask: My Communication Style Exposed”
A deeply personal and reflective speech, where the speaker explored his own communication style. It highlighted both the importance and difficulty of truly understanding one another—something we all strive for in Toastmasters.

💡 Table Topics Session

The Table Topics session, led by Toastmaster M, featured 7 questions under the theme of spring.

Each participant had the opportunity to deliver an impromptu speech.
With the pleasant spring atmosphere outside, the theme felt especially fitting, and members shared a variety of creative and seasonal ideas.

📝 Evaluations

Constructive feedback is at the heart of Toastmasters learning.

  • Toastmaster S and Toastmaster M provided thoughtful evaluations of the prepared speeches.
  • Each meeting role holder also reported on their responsibilities.
  • Finally, General Evaluator Toastmaster M wrapped up the session with comprehensive feedback on the entire meeting.

This structured evaluation process helps members steadily improve their speaking and leadership skills.
